The festival makes the wide range of photography in Vienna visible and offers a great opportunity to get to know the medium of photography in its entire spectrum. Digitalisation and social media have changed the way we deal with photography, but also its reception, and have given it a new perception.

The programme partners are dedicated to the different forms of photography, from artistic photography to documentary, reportage and fashion photography. The museums, galleries, offspaces and many other locations show photographic works from the photographers' laboratories.

FOTO WIEN curates and organises a diverse programme of its own, including exhibitions, panel discussions and talks with national and international photo experts, an extensive educational programme with guided tours and workshops, a Photobook Market and Photo Awards.

The photography festival is organised by KUNST HAUS WIEN.

Festival Highlights

Female Photographers in Focus

Female Photographers in Focus highlights the outstanding work of women photographers from the invention of the medium in the 19th century to the present day and helps to make these achievements visible so that they can find their way into the history of photography and art.

Rethinking Nature / Rethinking Landscape

Rethinking Nature / Rethinking Landscape focuses on the key role of photography in the perception of nature. Many artists contribute to the understanding of the current environmental situation and use the potential of photography to reflect on the critical relationship between humans and nature.

The first edition of FOTO WIEN ended on 20 April 2019. For four weeks Vienna was dedicated to artistic photography, which was shown, discussed, discussed and celebrated. A total of around 75,000 visitors attended the first edition of the new festival, in which 130 programme partners with 700 national and international artists took part.
