Christine de Grancy's photographs show the people. At the invitation of the Austrian-Chinese Society, the artist visited China for the first time in 1984. For de Grandy, the focus was on capturing people's everyday lives and meeting the individual within this incredible number of over a billion people in the multi-ethnic state of the People's Republic of China.
"I wanted to travel this country with open eyes, open hearts and unprejudiced curiosity, meet the individual and find in all faces what we human beings everywhere are. I have found it.
And on this journey I was once again confirmed that we need openness and distance equally in order to be able to live together in dignity".
The conversation takes place as part of Christine de Grancy's exhibition, in which the Chinese photographer Weiming Yuan is shown for the first time in Austria.
The exhibition will be open on 22 March 2019 from 18:30 to 22:30 in the presence of the artist.
