Approaching a person with the camera never ceases to be an adventure. Getting involved with a work of art, surrendering to one’s own curiosity is also an adventure. Robert Fleischanderl’s works open up a wide range of perceptions in the viewer’s imagination: mental and iconographic references from Caravaggio to Homer Simpson may pop up, ambivalent associations with spaces that seem to be familiar may emerge. Robert Fleischanderl’s works give space to the frail as well as to the resistant, placing the conventional in tension with contemporary civilization. In their complexity, his photographs lend themselves to large formats. Fleischanderl’s work is a tour de force through Western iconography, up to the “visuals” of contemporary everyday culture. It is also an art adventure in the suburbs, an interim use project in Penzing directly on the U3 subway.
