Fotografie 2 brings together different approaches to the examination of photography – both in its analogue and digital form. The images do not deny their mediality, but rather open their horizons to the “rhetoric of the real” (Sören Grammel). They refer to the development and decay – emergence, existence, disintegration – of the photographic material, which now itself comes to the fore and unfolds, with the exclusion of any “pictorial content,” its own narrative power. On another level, ideas concerning the concept and composition of an image and the “choice of the moment” are put up for discussion. The exhibition title refers to the educational and didactic langiage of textbooks and reflects the explicative, the explanatory as the common denominator which underlies and, at the same time, is challenged by all the works on display.
