FOTOGRAFIE ALS MOTIV (Photography as motif) brings together three artistic positions whose critical engagement with photography and film is informed by the biographical background of the artists: Caroline Heider, Lisa Rastl and Claudia Rohrauer have undergone training not only in the photographic and cinematic craft but also in visual arts, and are active in both areas. Rastl and Rohrauer work as freelance photographers, Heider works in the field of moving images, and their artistic work is informed by a similar conceptual approach: in all three cases, photographic practice and the technical, media and socio-cultural aspects associated with it are inextricably weeded to their art production. The craft serves as a source of ideas and, at the same time, becomes a catalyst for a critical examination of photography – a reflection that the artists understand as an artistic exploration of the medium.
