The photo project Museum zu Gast (Hosting the Museum) of Lorenz “eSeL” Seidler brings the functions and roles of a museum to the fore, using the example of the future “Landesgalerie Niederösterreich” in Krems (opening: May 2019).
“Museum in Residence...” – Future employees of the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich, from the exhibition installation team to the museum’s director, have staged themselves at suitable locations in Krems. eSeL portraits the new museum – a much-discussed “alien element” – in the context of the everyday life of the city and makes visible not only the employees but also the paradoxical role of art as a “part of society.”
Since February 2019, the photos have been drawing a heterogeneous portrait of the upcoming art institution and its city in public space in Vienna and Krems. Handwritten notes add a specific design element to postcard and poster subjects turning them into “verbal imagery” and inviting further excursions into the world of art through humorous commentaries.
At FOTO WIEN, in the “eSeL REZEPTION” at MuseumsQuartier Wien, the photo series will be on display for the first time in its entirety.
