Sicherheitsstrategien (Security Strategies) can be seen as a continuation of the photographic di-mension of the two projects RoboCop and ED-209 (Enforcement Droid-209). The works were created as a reaction to a new social war in El Salvador. RoboCop and ED-209 are police robots known from US-American movies of the 1980s – the robots developed in Detroit were used in the movies to fight crime, and the movies exerted a strong influence in Central America. The ex-hibited photographs use images and fictions from these films, and convey a vivid impression of the economic and social reality of Central America.
A mixture of tragedy and comedy, fiction and documentary makes up the basic mood of this pro-ject. The exhibition introduces a contemporary position of Central American photography, which takes social reality as its starting point and focuses on everyday rural life.
