Borjana Ventzislavova’s exhibition deals with the structures of art on a meta-level. From 2013 to 2018, the artist asked the main protagonists of the Bulgarian art scene to sit on a chair in front of their workplace or house on the street for five minutes and talk about the relevance of Bulgarian contemporary art – without, however, using the two words as such. This multi-layered video portrait of the artistic developments of a country is shown for the first time in its entirety, and transforms Haus Wittgenstein into a living room with furniture that could come from Bulgaria or Austria and references the history of the house. In addition to the more than 30 video interviews, a series of large-format portrait photographs of actors connected with the art scene are shown. The actors, familiar with Ventzislavaova’s oeuvre, talk about and contextualize the artist's work. (Walter Seidl)
