Installation works by artists of the Federal Chancellery and KulturKontakt Austria artists in residence program

Following a political practice of art in urban space, international artists who stay in Vienna for three months as artists in residence of the Federal Chancellery and KulturKontakt Austria are offered the opportunity to realize an artistic intervention in the public space. What constitutes, today, emancipatory processes, acts of liberation from social norms and world views enforced by media politics? How can discursive engagement with these factors open up new territories? What are the faculties, social relationships, personal life prospects that may further the emergence of a nuanced, multifaceted perspective? An engagement with the transcultural situation at Vienna’s Praterstern is as much a part of the project as a critical examination of the ways in which artistic work can be translated into a political dimension. The billboards do not merely feature as a display and projection surface, but are intended to stimulate communication and reaction among passers-by. The artistic interventions pose questions relating to the configurations of a socio-political situation in a state of flux.
