The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum.

(Noam Chomsky)

With a certain ironic elevation the exhibition A Modernist Lunchbreak explores the contemporary sociological phenomenon of societal control through generated desires.

In this case the control of basic needs such as food and drinks and all its socio-cultural implications. The exhibiton features large scale photographic prints and installations by Clemens Ascher.

The works of Clemens Ascher continue to explore the subliminal effect of colours and repetitive demonstration. Both inherent principals of marketing and advertising, which are continuously used and abused to control and direct our behaviors and opinions.
