The Camera as a Weapon against Racial Injustice
by Prof. Steven Hoelscher, Austin/Texas
The centuries-long history of the African-American struggle for freedom is well documented photographically. Professor Steven Hoelscher traces the strategic use of the medium in terms of equality and integration in his picture-rich lecture (in English).
STEVEN D. HOELSCHER has been Professor of American Studies and Geography at the University of Texas at Austin since 2000. He also serves as Faculty Curator of Photography at UT Austin's Harry Ransom Center. Before that, he taught at Louisiana State University, and from 2003-2004 he was a Senior Fulbright Professor in the North American Studies Program at the University of Bonn. He earned a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin.
